excellent with learning curve

The trick is arranging the wood for maximum dispersal of heat into the room. Purchased a grate and back wall combination. Found it moderately hotter than a generic grate; my wife loved it but I had higher expectations. Then I started adding wood in front of the grate, rather than piling it up between the grate and against the back wall, and it was transformative. The heat output is amazing with a log in front of the grate, especially when it burns down to coals. Basically extends the coal bed six inches closer to the room, but the effect feels more like multiplying the output by four. Now the heat is incredible. With a small bed of coals, one log on top and in bottom in front, I can feel it from ten feet away. Shipping was incredibly fast, workmanship excellent, and beautiful.

M-6 Gothic Grate with steel back plate

This item performs as advertised. It uses far less wood and provides excellent heat. Of course, we did put a one inch steel back plate behind it which I believe completes and makes this grate so effective.

This grate has been fantastic. Follow the instructions and you’ll have the best fire. At the end of it all, you have nothing but ashes, no half-burned logs, just white ash. Highly recommend.

Purchased this to replace std grate. We have a very tight ICF ( Concrete ) home and have had issues with backdrafting. No longer. This vertical grate works fantastic. Very nice looking in the fireplace as well. Great product.
