Description
Customer Reviews
This special grate is intended to fit medium sized Rumford fireplaces. It is specifically designed to fit the common 48" wide Rumford fireplace with the following firebox measurements: 16" across the back wall, 48" across the front opening, measuring 16" in depth at the floor, and having an opening height of about 48".
Even though this grate is intended for a Rumford fireplace, it works great and looks awesome in many other common fireplaces too. Just make sure you have enough width and depth in your fireplace. Also, make sure you have enough fireplace opening height (29" or more) to easily toss wood over the grate and onto the fire.
Grate Dimensions:
19" Tall, 31½" Front width, 16" Rear width, 15" Deep. This grate is essentially the same thing as our
TR-7
model; this one is just 4" wider and has two more vertical spokes. Approximate shipping weight in the box is 57 lbs. Constructed from 3/4" steel bar.

Mr.
When I first heard about the Wall of Fire grate, it made sense but I remained skeptical that it would cure our smoke problems. Our Rumford styled fireplace has been a source of frustration for years. Despite our best efforts to avoid having a smoky home, which included pre-warming the flue, building the fire against the back of the firebox and cracking open a window to generate more draft, we gave serious consideration to converting to a gas fired appliance. I'm happy to report that the Wall of Fire has solved all of our problems. In addition to eliminating the smoke infiltration problem, the self feeding grate design allows for a longer burn time. Lastly, I want to compliment the phone support for helping me determine the best design for my fireplace.

Just wanted to drop you guys a note and tell you how satisfied I am with my new Grate Wall of Fire Rumford grate. Besides being very good looking, it performs like advertised. The fires are much easier to manage and the heat more efficient and focused. I would highly recommend your products and the ease of doing business with your firm. Sincerely, Tim

Worth Every Penny
We just finished an addition onto our 100+ year old log cabin. A much needed living room, master bed and upgraded the bathroom. We had a fireplace built with a Rumford 4'x4' opening kit. The guy who built it never said they were notorious for smoking out the room. Well after several fires we figured it out pretty quickly! I tried everything (starting small until the flue and chimney were warm, opening windows, keeping the fire towards the back) but to no avail. Some fires were better than others, but the next morning we could always smell the smoke. After a little research I came across the Grate Wall of Fire and I'm so glad I did. The price didn't put me off as long as it worked. We've now had about a dozen fires and no smoke in the room what so ever. Not to mention the greater amount of heat that is put off by the vertical design. It took me a few tries to figure out the best way to build the fire, mainly stacking enough kindling on the bottom to build up the glowing embers so that the logs burn well. I still have to do a little tending to the fire, which I have always enjoyed, but no where near as much as I did with our old conventional grate. The logs for the most part just fall where they need to. This design is nothing less than genius. If you're here reading this then you probably have the same problem that we did. Do yourself a favor and get one of these, you won't regret it.

Fireplace Grate
Like others, we had a smoke issue with our RumFort Fireplace. The wood fell down close to the front and would result in smoke filtering out into the room! We have a Fresh Air Vent built into the fireplace wall and we would still get smoke and the smoke smell infiltrating the room. It got to the point that my wife did not want to burn the firepace because she didn't want the house to smell like a campsite! The Grate has eliminated this concern and has made it easier for my wife to start fires herself.

Looks great, works great
The grill is very attractive. I love the heavy duty look and construction. We have had several fires now in our fireplace, which is an indoor fireplace in our great room which has high ceilings. What we have discovered is that we need a very hot starter fire to get the larger logs burning well. Once a mature robust fire is going, every added log burns quickly and thoroughly. Without a hot starter fire at the bottom, under the larger logs, the logs above will burn, but not robustly and without generating the heat that a Rumford fireplace (or this grill design) is known for.

Unbelievable!!!! All these years of that “puff back” of smoke and the first time using the grate with the fireback and not a WHIFF of smoke. Truly remarkable. How I wish I had found this 30 years ago. The design makes for a much easier starting fire and so much less mess. I am writing this review as I sit 4 feet away to the side of the fireplace and the warmth is just radiating in to the room. Can I give it 10 stars?

Solution to Downdrafts
I was about to shut down my big Rumsford fireplace because at some point a downdraft would fill the room with smoke. This 100% solved the problem. It's worth every Penny.

Fantastic
I had concerns about smoke when I saw how shallow my new Rumford was but no worries ... along comes the Great Wall of Fire! It keeps the wood stacked at the back of the fireplace creating a beautiful tall fire that requires little in the way of poking or prodding to keep it burning nicely.

Love this
This is Very good quality very well made. nothing cheap like what you get at a box store. When I called them they were very helpful. We put a fire in right away and it worked so well, held the logs so there was such peace of mind from them rolling out like with other designs. If I build another fireplace I’ll be buying another.
